Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Success also indicates he has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his skill to play at the elite level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to force a third set.

He defended four initial opportunities in a close third set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
